Who is Your Groom Gal?

About Me
Hello! My name is Leah aka YourGroomGal. Officially, I work as a professional groom,
unofficially I work as an equine re-habilitator.

In my un-official role I have taken over care of horses that have been abandoned,
some that are just plain neglected, rehabilitated horses from abuse and from injury.
And occasionally, taken them in as my own when I can do nothing else.

Some of my recent works have been; re-homing a pony that was unwanted and
neglected, re-homing an older Tennessee Walker that was abandoned, taking over
full care including worming, exercise and hoof care of an abandoned Thoroughbred;
re-socializing an Arab mare that was abandoned and had become essentially feral;
taking in a gaited pony from a home where he was no longer wanted; and just
recently I've taken in an appendix Quarter Horse with a severe knee injury in need
of rehabilitation.

I was bitten by the horse bug early in life, my first horse was neglected and horribly
abused. He would be left in his stall for months on end then when the owner did
come he would beat the horse into the corner of his stall.  I started taking care of
him, and eventually fell in love and ended up adopting him. With some time, patience
and a lot of love, I discovered a beautiful spirit and loving friend. In time I
discovered that he had show experience and was a papered Quarter/Arab.

Since then, I have been driven by a desire to care for horses in whatever capacity I
could. That has taken me down many roads, including being a ranch hand, trainers
assistant and professional groom.

At this point in my life, I am fortunate enough to be able to devote my life to these
magnificent creatures and earn their trust and respect in the process. I truly have
the best "job" in the world.

Black Jack, my third adoption.
28 year old gaited pony, no
longer wanted by his young
owner. Taken in thin
, ragged &
depressed.
Here he is looking &
feeling much better.
Quinn, my fourth adoption. a 23
year old Appendix Quarter Horse,
taken in from a rescue after being
injured on the track. A little
mis-trustful, thin and in need of a
lot of TLC, our road is long but
as
you can see,
we're already making
progress.
This lovely lady is Chloe. A well
cared for, much loved Hanoverian
mare belonging to one of my best
clients and closest friends.
King, an off-track TB who's mom
was serving her country in Iraq for
2 years. I fostered King full time
for a year, then through
rehabilitation after an injury and
an ensuing surgery for a second
year until his mom came home.

Teatro, my second adoption. An off
track Throughbred that had seen
better days. When i met him he had
been all but abandoned, was thin,
shabby and sad. A couple months later
he was fit, happy and looking and
feeling better than ever and eventually
went onto a happy new home.
